FILE SERVER | HTPC | PERSONAL RIG

My current personal rig, while nothing to be ashamed of, is a MASSIVE machine with plenty of power to offer and is currently the home of a previous project that is still waiting to be completed. Once I can afford the high capacity hard drives to fill it up I'll be reconsilidating my media collections to it in a massive 3.17TB array (which should leave several hundred GB free for recording) and if not I'll just throw a few more into the optical drive bays. Toss in my pair of PVR-500 tuner cards and maybe one more for good measure and I'll have myself a master backend to do all the recording/storage duties for all my other machines which I will be rebuilding to use diskless booting so that none of the dedicated frontends will even NEED hard drives reducing cost, heat, and noise of operation.

This is one of the most expensive parts of the whole master plan, as I'm still in the market for 5 more 500GB drives and at the current market price for them I could pay for around 81% of the OTHER expensive portion of the project...my new computer. Yes I realize that the BGY-11 that is being converted over to a glorified file cabinet was supposed to be my end all PC...but come on a geek like me is always going to want something better...something faster...SO CHECK OUT THE PLANS FOR THE NEW MACHINE!
