My current HTPC is the begginnings of a larger network of HTPC machines working together to provide my entire home with HTPC/PVR functionality. The network consists of only one machine at the moment, but I'm hoping to put together the money to improve upon the network at some point this year.

I'm using a combination of Fedora Core Linux by RedHat and a PVR software called MythTV to essentially build my own TiVO with more features and capabilities than any TiVO or cable/sat companies DVR could ever dream of. For instance, in just the one machine I am able to control an external tuner box like a satellite STB or digital cable STB just like those other guys, but I can also record 4 channels simultaneously and should I decide that 4 isn't enough I can upgrade it to numerous more channels. Plus unlike the other options if I want more recording space I just add another hard drive.

What? There's no more room in the case for another hard drive? Welcome to MythTV networking...a wonderful world where any Linux machine in the network with your MythTV systems can serve as either a dedicated frontend, dedicated backend, front AND backend, or nothing more than a holding cell for a random hard drive for storing more recording space. This is where my current plans come in and interconnect with my insatiable drive for a faster/better computer.
